New Artist Direct was founded on the notion that there is a lot of good music out there that most of us never get to hear. Why? Because most of the music industry makes it that way. Each day, big business is squeezing more and more independent artists out of retail stores, radio airplay, and press in general. We are helping independent artists to 'play the game' on their own terms and win. Or, at least make a living doing what they love.

You may ask, "If these independent artists are so great, then why aren't they household names?" Well, some of the artists we carry are household names in their hometowns, states, and regions. We want to give them the opportunity to expand their audience base and continue to make an independent living making music. Quite frankly, they can in most cases make a better living as an independent artist. It's simple; they get to keep more of the money. Tina Schlieske of Tina and the B-Sides poignantly summed up major label life in a song on her second, and last, major label release. She wrote, "If you don't mind me saying, find out who we're paying!"

Some of our artists have moved onto major label success, such as Jonny Lang and Susan Tedeschi. They are the lucky ones and we are very honored to have their independent releases as part of our catalog. Many of our customers tell us that they had no idea that such huge artists ever released independent records.

We encourage you to explore all of the artists that we carry in our catalog. You may be surprised to find an artist or two that you just can't stop listening to. We love it when people ask us, "How come so and so isn't famous? They're great!" The truth is, we feel the exact same way about them. We are, first and foremost, independent music fans
