It all begins back in January 1999. Amidst
another long cold Minnesota winter, songwriter Bryan Loften
is going stir-crazy in his South Minneapolis home. He wants
it to be sunny. He wants to go outside. The depths of winter
have set in. It is out of this seasonal desolation that
Moviestars are born.
Since it is far too cold to be out and
about, Bryan sits up in his room and plays guitar... a
lot. He is coming up with a unique sound, writing truly
genuine songs about what he experiences living day to day
and getting by. A lot of the feeling in his songs are transcending
through what he has musically going on - not always giving
these songs any lyrics.
The end result: an album like no other.
It is a very difficult record to describe. It has elements
of pop music, but it really isn't pop music. It has echoes
of Bob Dylan's influence, but it's really not Dylanesque.
Is it "alternative"? What is "alternative" anymore?
